I recently went to watch the film 'Legend' The film is based on the Kray twins Ronnie and Reggie the Director of the film is Brian Helgeland the Writers: Brian Helgeland, John Pearson (book)
The cast members are Tom Hardy who plays both of the twins I loved how Hardy portrayed both of the twins showing off their individual characteristics such as Ronnie's unstable, angry behavior where as he portrays reggae as collected, calculated and smooth. The lead female role of Frances was played by Emily Browning she was also the voice throughout the film narrating the story from her perspective to the audience. I feel that the genre of the film is a mixture of suspense and comedy as the film has moments of tension and drama but then has some sort of comedic value.
I myself found Ronnie's character very humorous at times although he's mentally unstable and had you in suspense to what he would do next as he was a very violent character. Apart from the obvious difference between Ronnie and Reggie such as Ronnie wears glasses The mannerisms between them are different such as Reggie is more reserved and shows off a gentlemanly manor where as Ronnie portrays a more thuggish less defined character.
Frances was Reggie's wife the film showed the audience how their relationship develop. Frances is described as 'fragile' in early scenes of the film and as the film progresses you can see her mental health is suffering being labeled a 'pill popper' by Reggie. Frances has that glamorous and elegant 60's feel about her during the film her hair supports a classic beehive hairstyle and has very sleek and stylish hair styles throughout. Her make-up is very simple and natural looking with a thin line of eyeliner and very natural tones of eye shadow. Going onto the scene of the day after Reggie had attacked her, You see that her usually immaculate hair is messy and out of place and you see bruising around the eye very faintly which I feel worked well and was effective as they say less is more. Shes a demure reserved character the audience sympathies with her as she narrates the film the hope you feel that survives the unhappiness she faces throughout the film to then find out she tragically kills herself.
Fight scenes were intense at moments with a gritty realism but had comedic value with Ronnie's character as often supporting with one liners that you couldn't help laugh at in what should be gripping moment.Often using gallows (cockney humor) and the cuts wernt over the top there wasn't masses of blood making it seem more realistic. Another scene that was very gripping was when Reggie went to prison and the police officers beat him up the special effects made you feel his pain with his swallon bruised face blood dripping from his nose and Reggie pleading for them to stop which was just a coy plan to attack back and hit one of the officers and seeing the after mass was very good as the cuts and bruising looked so real and the officers stitches looked sore.
The wedding comparing photos from the original wedding to the one in the film I feel that they have re-created it very well you can see that the hair has been styled to match the original I feel by gave the film a sense of reality and gave it more continuity as you want to watch the film and feel like your watching the actual Krays and believe in the charters so the research behind it all makes it all more believable.
